Last week we looked at community based (alumni-funded) student loans, which presented a win-win for borrowers and lenders alike.
Now students can pay some of their tuition fees thanks to Grantoo – a recently launched startup online gaming platform that converts those stolen hours playing games into academic grants and donations to charity.
With brand sponsored tournaments, companies get the opportunity to be recognised for their charitable donations, and students, who play the games for free, can nominate what percentage of any money won will go to their designated charities.
On-site advertising helps fund the operations in an environment where once again, both provider and benefactor can profit from their involvement.
