Most of us are familiar with the iconic yellow and black taxis of New York, through film, photos or for the lucky ones, a visit.
Nissan has beaten the competition to supply the future taxi fleet, and their redesigned NV200 cargo van will hit the streets in 2013. Visitors to the recent New York International Auto show would have seen the familiar colour scheme, but there are many changes elsewhere.
New features include upgraded suspension, more legroom, a durable and anti-microbial vinyl seat covering (killing 99.9% of germs on contact), and sliding doors and windows for emergencies – fresh air related or otherwise!
Other benefits include passenger-controlled air con, USB charging points, an intercom, a credit card payment facility, a huge skylight roof for those Manhattan skyline views – and a carbon layered interior to absorb all those unpleasant odours!
Is this the future of taxi travel? I certainly hope so!
