On 13th September 1996, American rapper and actor Tupac (2Pac) Shakur was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. As of five years ago, he had sold more than 75 million albums worldwide. And now he’s back, well almost.
During the headline Dr. Dre set at Sunday night’s Coachella 2012 festival the audience was treated to an unusual cameo appearance. A 3D holographic rendering of Tupac, with footage from past live performances, sent Twitter into meltdown!
Is this the shape of things to come? Are we going to see the Fab Four or Elvis make a comeback, or will Jimi Hendrix set fire to another Fender Stratocaster? Either way, this could herald a new era of possibilities for monetising archived footage of the legends of yesteryear.
Fad or Future?
