The second coming of smartphones, ignited by the launch of the iPhone, gave birth to a new class of applications that weren’t possible before – sharing information about your goings-on when you were actually there. Apps like Foursquare and Facebook Places are examples of what’s now possible, when you can access the internet whenever you want and wherever you are.
One new geo-social app, called HipGeo, is about to give it another spin – by rolling the best features of services like tumblr, Instagram, Path and TripAdvisor into one. HipGeo aims to solve the problem of ‘check-in fatigue’ by automatically keeping track of your whereabouts and then compiling this data with the notes and photos you take into a real time diary. You can then decide with whom you’d like to share them in a blog-like format, and explore what others have to say about their destinations.
